The View from Where You Are
Recently, on an early morning walk, the rising sun glinted off a passing plane overhead. My mind grasped onto the thought of all those people on that flight. Some may have been looking down in my general direction. I wondered what they were thinking. Two perspectives at the same moment but essentially two different worlds.
Nearly twenty years ago, I was saying farewell to my staff at Morningside Elementary. I said something to the effect that we can be at one of two places in our lives: standing on the bank of the river and watching whatever flows by or setting off in the river and letting it take us to new destinations.
Strangely, seeing that plane took me back to that final day with those special people. I was about to embark on a new journey then, and now I find myself in that position again. For seasons in our lives, we can sit and watch the world go by. But for me and probably many others, we want to seek new adventures and see where the currents take us. Either situation can be rewarding but we have to give up one for the other for a time. While uncertainty can be unsettling, there can be great joy in the journey. Where are you today?
