Awareness in the Fog
The other morning, I took a walk in the fog. As I wandered through the mist, I noticed several things that go unseen most of the time. Spiderwebs, outlines of signs and trees, textures on houses and sidewalks, and light beams coming from streetlamps, cars, and homes. It struck me paradoxically that sometimes we must go through the fog to have a clearer view of what is around us.
All of us have probably said at times that we feel a little foggy or that we are living in a fog. While it can be unsettling when we are in those states, they offer opportunities to slow down and focus on other things that we may normally neglect. Opening our eyes and minds intentionally in these situations, we give ourselves a chance to understand and appreciate things about ourselves and the world around us that might only be visible in the fog. Even in the thickest of the mists, we can gain insights that can enrich our lives.
